LateRooms.com reports A forthcoming event should appeal to art lovers staying in Milan hotels.

While fine paintings and sculptures may usually be chiefly associated with other Italian cities such as Florence and Rome, Milan also has much to offer art enthusiasts.

One example of this is Art on the Navaglio, an annual art exhibition held on the banks of the city's famous Navaglio Grande canal.

Taking place on May 8th and 9th this year, the event will showcase the work of approximately 300 artists from across the country.

The exhibition is free for browsers and can be a great place to pick up a bargain before returning home.

Alternatively, visitors may like to simply enjoy the atmosphere during a stroll along the waterside.

The event is overseen by the Naviglio Grande Association, an organisation founded in 1982 to oversee initiatives taking place in the area.

Built in the 12th century, the Naviglio Grande is Milan's oldest canal and was originally created for irrigation purposes.

Leonardo da Vinci is believed to have worked on improving the waterway when it started to be used for transportation.

Nowadays, a number of special events take place along its picturesque sides, such as the art market and the Fiori e Sapori flower display in April.

If you're heading to Art on the Navaglio this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Milano as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
