Try Canoeing along the Tiber while in Rome - LateRooms.com

LateRooms.com reports holidaymakers with a sense of adventure may like to try the Discesa del Tevere event during a stay in Rome.

This event, which translates as Canoeing along the Tiber, consists of a seven-day canoe trip between Citta Di Castello and the Italian capital.

Situated on the floodplain of the River Tiber, Citta di Castello is a small city in the province of Perugia.

Led by experienced canoeists, participants begin their journey here and make their way downstream towards Rome in seven stretches, each consisting of between 20 and 30 kilometres.

Anyone staying in Rome hotels can take part in the event, which runs from April 24th to May 1st.

However, there are several rules of participation and important safety measures which all canoeists are expected to follow.

Participants are required to complete the journey in a canoe or kayak that is suitable for handling grade II to III rapids, with a canoe helmet and high-buoyancy life jacket.

Overnight accommodation is provided in local gymnasiums or similar places, allowing access to toilet and shower facilities. Communal meals can also be provided if ordered in advance.

The Discesa del Tevere is priced at €100 (£88.60) or €150, depending on the package bought by the participant.
