SAMUEL KNOX APPOINTED TO MISSOURI HUMANITIES COUNCIL BOARD
The Missouri Humanities Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Samuel Knox to the Council’s Board of Directors. Mr Knox is the co-founder and current president of Unite. of Southwest Missouri, Inc., in Springfield. In addition to publishing a monthly newspaper for the African American community, Unite sponsors Springfield’s annual Multi Cultural Opportunity Festival on Martin Luther King Day, as well as business and leadership conferences.
Sam Knox has held numerous community and regional appointments, including the Missouri Arts Council Grant Committee; Missouri Minority Health Advisory Committee; Springfield Area Arts Council; Springfield Utilities Community Advisory Committee; Southwestern Bell Community Advisory Committee; Community Partnership of the Ozarks Board; and the SMSU Public Affairs Committee.
Since 1971, the Missouri Humanities Council has provided thousands of programs to help Missourians enjoy a rich cultural life and develop community citizenship. Our mission is to help Missourians learn about history, literature, and the ideas that shape our democracy, by engaging the minds and hearts of our community. Our programs include: READ from the START, family reading initiative; Chautauqua, community celebration of history: Charettes, consulting for local museums & cultural institutions; Museum on Main Street rural initiative of the Smithsonian Institution; as well as Grants and Initiatives to fund locally generated programs. MHC is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities, a Federal agency.
