The presentation comes as an effort to help drive community awareness and participation in A2 Fiber, which in turn will impact Google's review and selection process.

A 2009 Citizen Survey of Ann Arbor residents found that 95 percent are Internet users, 88% make purchases online and 59% conduct business with the city online.

Google announced in February its plans for building and testing ultra high-speed broadband networks in several select cities in the US. A2 Fiber is a collaboration between the city of Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan and the local business community to be one of these selected cities. Google's test lines will have data stream rates of 1 gigabit per second, which is approximately 100 times faster than most DSL or cable connections in the United States.
