Outstanding Data Security and Privacy: LifeSensor, a Personal Health Record, Receives ips Certification Again

LifeSensor®, a web-based personal health record, has once again met the ips internet privacy standards for data protection and has received certification. The auditors of the German data protection agency, datenschutz nord GmbH, confirm the exemplary handling of personal information by InterComponentWare (ICW) and the LifeSensor concept of a personal health record, assuring consumer trust and confidence. LifeSensor members manage and control their health information in one convenient location and can authorize access to physicians, pharmacists and fitness trainers for a quick and brief overview.

In order to grant the ips certificate, datenschutz nord not only audited the electronic personal health record, but also the WebAPI interface linking to the various medical primary systems. Data protection auditor Oliver Stutz stated, “All medical data within the LifeSensor personal health record is stored separately from the patient’s personal data and is encrypted with every file transfer. Not even ICW employees are able to associate any medical data with a particular individual without the patient’s explicit authorization. ICW stands out as an exemplary leader in this industry in regards to data protection policies.” Due to increased security standards, the LifeSensor certification process in 2005 exceeded the certification standards established two years earlier.

The ips certificate is recommended by the largest German public private partnership Initiative D21 (www.internet-guetesiegel.de).
