New York, NY – Marsha Firestone, Ph.D., president of the Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO), has announced that the WPO membership will aid victims of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation by providing job opportunities to those who have been relocated across the country because of the damage caused to the gulf coast. Evacuees can visit the organization’s Web site at http://www.womenpresidentsorg.com and click on the Hurricane JobAid link. A form will open on which individuals can provide information about their qualifications and skills sets, along with their current location. Evacuees can fax or e-mail the form to WPO. The information will be provided to WPO member businesses in the evacuee’s location. OPEN from American ExpressSM funded a portion of the development of the online project. In WPO’s annual Labor Day survey 72 percent of participants responded that they were planning to hire new employees in 2005.
“WPO’s membership of more than 900 multimillion-dollar women business owners stretches across the country, giving us the ability to reach out and help those who have been relocated due to Hurricane Katrina,” said Firestone. “Many organizations are donating food, supplies and funds. With the support of OPEN from American Express, we are able to help both the victims of Katrina as well as the local economy by providing the crucial key to recovery after this disaster – jobs.”
