Cary, IL: X-Ray Imaging Solutions, Inc.s’ newly launched handheld imaging scope, SPYder, will allow security personnel to conduct spot checks and thorough inspections in seconds.“Until today, X-ray scanners were either large, immobile units or low-quality handheld devices,” says Glen Thomas of X-Ray Imaging Solutions. “The SPYder draws upon our extensive experience in the X-ray imaging industry to deliver high-quality images literally at your fingertips."
Weighing just 10 pounds, the SPYder uses a 12-volt handle-mounted battery pack and can be set up in just three minutes. A handle-mounted LCD display screen shows images from a field of view of 40 mm. The SPYder can also be mounted on bomb squad robots, with an ability to transmit its images back via either WiFi or video cable.
Unlike earlier isotope-based handheld devices, the SPYder uses an X-ray tube-based imaging system, eliminating the need for NRC licensing, constant replacement of isotopes, depleted isotope disposal and transportation issues. With a SPYder in hand, security personnel will be able to scan a backpack or a package in minutes.
“We live in a day and age when speed is of the essence, when efficiently and rapidly gathered information can often save lives,” says Thomas. “With the SPYder, security agencies can now be secure that they have the latest tool in their armory in their fight against terror.”
