Marietta, GA (February 6, 2010) – Avisca Fine Art Gallery of Marietta, GA celebrates Black History Month in New York City with a group art exhibition featuring work by 15 emerging and mid-career black artists of the South and New York City. The three-day exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, February 19 and will run through Sunday, February 21 at Rogue Space, 526 West 26th Street, in the Chelsea Fine Art Building. With the exhibition, Avisca Fine Art Gallery continues its 12-year tradition of exhibiting in New York City in the month of February despite the cancellation of this year's National Black Fine Art Show in which the gallery has exhibited each year. "Over those years of exhibiting in New York City we have built up a loyal following and plenty of goodwill", says gallery director Byrma Braham, "and we have this exceptionally strong body of work that our artists have produced. It seemed like a good idea to bring a show to New York City."
Exhibiting artists include New York artists Francks Francois Deceus, Ann Tanksley and Teri Richardson; Georgia artists Charly Palmer, Tamara Madden and Cedric Smith; and the Greenville, SC folk artist, April Harrison. Many of the artists will be in attendance and all artwork will be for sale. Attendance to the opening reception and the exhibition is free and open to the public.
Avisca Fine Art Gallery is an alternative gallery space in downtown Marietta that focuses on work by emerging and mid-career African-American, Caribbean and Latin American artists. By sponsoring regular art exhibitions and educational programs that include gallery talks and screenings, the gallery seeks to contribute to the cultural enrichment of the Marietta community and the Greater Atlanta area.
