Hosted PBX Provider Toktumi Launches Industry First - Free Phone Number Porting

December 11, 2009 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
The days of phone carriers charging high fees to customers who want to port their number are over. Hosted PBX provider Toktumi has launched its "Take Back Your Number" program, which provides free phone number porting for local, cell, and 800 numbers.

The FCC requires all carriers to allow phone number transfers. However the FCC also allows phone carriers to charge customers for the "convenience" of keeping their number. As a barrier to users switching phone services traditional phone companies impose fees up to $50 for customers looking to transfer their number to a better phone service.

"We believe your phone number belongs to you, not the phone company," said Peter Sisson, Founder and CEO of Toktumi. "Despite FCC requirements to make number transfer easy, traditional carriers use delay tactics and charge high outbound transfer fees. We don't think that is fair. We prefer to keep our customers through better service and lower prices, rather than holding numbers hostage."

Marking an industry first Toktumi is now offering free number porting for all customers. This is just the latest in a string of innovations that Toktumi has brought to the telecommunications market.

Built on an enterprise grade infrastructure, Toktumi hosted PBX offers all of the traditional office PBX features needed for businesses, including an auto attendant, multi-line support, after hours call handling, 20 person conferencing, and custom greetings, as well as next generation features such as visual voicemail, keyword search dialing, PC-based calling, find me follow me, and simulring. Toktumi's virtual PBX system also offers unlimited US/Canada calls and international rates starting at $.02/min– all for just $14.95/month.

For mobile professionals Toktumi also offers the Line2 app, which allows customers to add their business number as a second line to their iPhones or BlackBerries.  Two numbers, two sets of contacts, two voicemail greetings – one phone. The innovative Line2 app was recently selected as one of the top ten smartphone apps for 2009 at the GigaOM Mobilize conference.

Interested customers can sign up for a 30 day free trial of Toktumi's service at www.toktumi.com. The mobile app Line2 is available at www.line2.com. iPhone customers can download Line2 directly on their phones from the iTunes app store.
