Robert Welch University Reaches Aggressive Enrollment Target As a New Online University.
Appleton, WI – September 1, 2005—Accomplishing a feat unheard of in the realm of higher education, Robert Welch University (www.robertwelchuniversity.org), a new startup online university headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin, reached its aggressive goal of 50 accepted students two weeks ahead of schedule. Students range from 15 to 76 years old with many coming from the homeschooled community. In the world of higher education, where slow growth is the norm for new institutions, Robert Welch University hit the ground running with a solid understanding of both its overall mission and its target markets. With a meager marketing budget, typical of a start up organization, and a limited recruiting timeframe, the university’s team oriented staff guided the marketing and recruiting campaigns of the university, investing resources and energy only in areas guaranteed to give the organization the beginnings of a brand image and the highest return on its investment. With a full time staff of just 5 employees, the university has prepared a world class, interactive learning environment using the Moodle (www.moodle.org) open source learning management system. The university, launches its first session on September 15th.
Unlike most traditional online programs which are technical or business focused, Robert Welch University’s curriculum has a liberal arts focus designed to deliver, in the words of Robert Welch, an “education in the accumulated knowledge of history, science, literature, and languages which we, heirs of all the ages, have inherited.” Students can choose from American studies, history, science, literature, economics, political philosophy, mathematics, art history, communications, philosophy, and the classical languages: Greek, Latin and Hebrew. Courses are just $125 per credit hour. The university, which is affiliated with the John Birch Society, focuses particularly on its American studies curriculum, designed to give students a thorough grounding in the principles and historical perspectives that shaped the United States’ founding era and the Constitution. The university believes that this focus will bring together students with a common interest in preserving America’s great heritage through moral, intellectual and civic leadership.
