September 02, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
TORONTO, ON – August 31, 2005 – 01 Communique Laboratory Inc. (TSX: ONE – www.01com.com), a leading remote access solutions provider, today announced it has been granted a second patent (U.S. Patent No. 6,938,076), which involves a method for interfacing with a remote personal computer over the Internet from a wireless device. This patent and the previous patent (issued August 9,2005) provides 01 Communique with the opportunity to expand its revenue model by licensing its patented technology, in return for royalty payments, to other companies offering remote access and control products that make use of the patented technology.“We are very excited about the opportunities that these two patents offer us,” said Andrew Cheung, President and CEO of 01 Communique. “The innovative technology underlying this wireless patent provides a very powerful and cost effective method of achieving wireless access to email and files located on your PC or office network. The granting of these two patents reinforces our belief in the uniqueness and innovation of our technology. As we move forward we will evaluate all alternatives available to us to maximize our shareholder’s return on our technology leadership, innovation and first to invent validation.”
As well as using technology included in our previous patent (issued August 9, 2005) this patent also covers a method of sending information from a PC to a wireless PDA and then permitting the user of the PDA to easily and quickly access the PC in response to the information. This method allows for a structured notification message to the PDA that permits the device to “know” what PC to access and how to do so, thus ensuring secure access by authorized users only.
About the Patent
The patent relates to a system for providing access to a remote computer with a dynamic IP address from a wireless device. The system comprises a host PC linked to the Internet with an associated dynamic IP address. This PC is further linked to a notification facility, wherein this facility is adapted to create and send a notification that includes data for locating the PC on the Internet. The notification facility is part of a locator server, which is generally housed in a secure data center and connected to the Internet with a static IP address. A wireless device, such as any wireless cell phone or PDA (BlackBerry, Treo, etc.) with Internet access and linked to the mobile communication facility (locator server) can then receive a notification from the host PC through the locator server. A command operation facility then allows the PDA to locate the host PC through the locator sever and the result is a communication session between the host PC and the wireless device can take place, providing access to the functions and database of the remote PC from the wireless device.
