(New York City, Sept 1, 2005) –The Big Apple Con: Comic Book, Art, & Toy Show, the East Coast’s Largest Popular Arts convention, returns to New York City this Sept 10th-11th with High Adventure! It’s a weekend where bands of comic connoisseurs from across the globe gather in a quest for sketches, autographs, and the ultimate in comic book, sci-fi, and collectible merchandise! With over 300 tables of rarities, pulps, celebrity guests, and artists galore The Big Apple Con is a great adventure for any comic book aficionado.This September’s show pays a special tribute to the Comics of War.
“Given the kind of heaviness any New Yorker, or American rather, feels on this particular weekend, I thought it important that this show talk about the history of American War Comic Books. Comic Books haven’t always been just about Super Heroes, but for a time brought to every young boys imagination the idea of the American Hero from WWII through Korea and on,” commented show promoter Michael Carbonaro.
The Big Apple Con showcases the World’s Greatest Array of Comic Book Artists and Writers by Air, Land, & Sea! Comic Legends Jim Steranko (Nick Fury) Russ Heath (Sea Devils), Dick Ayers (Sgt. Rock), Sam Glanzman (U.S.S. Stevens), Esad Ribic (Wolverine), Steve Rude (Nexus), Jim Kreuger (Earth X), Arnold Drake (Deadman) and 100 More Incredible Creators will all be in Attendance: Sketching, Signing, and Meeting Fans. Super Artist Sal Buscema (Spiderman, FF4) will be giving away Free Super Hero Sketches all Day Saturday!
The show presents a diverse array of panels, workshops, and programs of every interest including: How to Draw Dynamic Comic Characters, In the War Room: A Retrospective of War Comics, How to Break into Anime Voice Acting with Yu-Gi-Oh’s and Pokemon’s Jamie McGonnigal, and interviews with today’s hottest artists and illustrators. The Big Apple Con also highlights Quick-Draw Contests, Giveaways, Anime Films a Heroic Costume Contest, and much more!
At 4pm on Saturday, all Big Apple Con Artists will be contributing to a fantastic Art Auction in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, granting the wishes of children battling life threatening medical conditions.
This September’s Big Apple Con also features celebrity guests of TV and cinema screen: Kristine Sutherland (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Melody Anderson (Flash Gordon), Steve Dash (Jason of Friday the 13th, II), Debbie Rochon (Scream Queen), Cathy St. George (Playmate: Miss Aug 1982), & Many More!
