White Spark Promotions donate to Aberdeen Student Charities Campaign

Birthdays are generally a time for receiving gifts rather than giving them, but not so for Aberdeen based White Spark Promotions, who celebrated their first birthday this month with a £200 donation to Aberdeen Student Charities Campaign. It was something of a landmark birthday, though. In fact, when White Spark's owner, 23-year-old Stuart Ebdy, dropped out of a university course on "Entrepreneurship", he could have been forgiven for thinking that the prospect of celebrating his first successful year in business was simply wishful thinking.
Luckily, Stuart realised that true entrepreneurs are born rather than made – and this week, as he celebrated the first birthday of White Spark Promotions, the print business he set up after just two days of unemployment, it seems fair to say that he's made his point.
This April, White Spark was named North East Scotland's Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Its first birthday celebration, held this month at Aberdeen's Club Snafu, was the ideal opportunity for Stuart to thank all of the people who've contributed to the business's success – including the Student Charities Campaign.
"The party was my way of both celebrating the success of the business and thanking all of the people who've helped me get this far," Stuart explains. "I've had a tremendous amount of support from clients, advisors, family and friends, and I wanted to thank them properly for helping White Spark succeed. The Aberdeen Student Charities Campaign was one of our early clients, and has remained loyal to us, using White Spark for their promotional printing. Our donation is our way of saying 'thank you'."
Drew Elliot, VP Charities said: “The Students’ Charities Campaign has an 85-year history. Over the past year, however, we have found the work of White Spark Promotions to be of exceptional quality and price in promoting ourselves and our events – in particular the torcher parade and student show. We are pleased to accept this kind donation from them and look forward to continuing dealing with them in the future.”
As for the future, this year will be a hard act to follow for White Spark Promotions. With first-year profits of over 30% more than targeted, the business is an almost text book example of small business success – ironic, when you consider the fact that Stuart gave up the textbooks to concentrate on starting the business his way.
Now it's onwards and upwards. Having just added an affiliate scheme and online designer to the company website at www.whitesparkpromotions.com, Stuart now plans to launch a further seven websites across Scotland in the coming months.
He has a lot to celebrate: and with White Spark's first successful year under his belt, Stuart's definitely looking forward to his second.
Ends.
