Switzerland, Florida and Portugal are proving top for travel this Easter according to leading online car hire comparison site Carrentals.co.uk as Brits choose to escape the cold weather and economic gloom of the UK.

The company, which this year has seen a 15% increase in advance Easter bookings, has also seen travellers booking car rental for longer durations – seven, nine, twelve and fourteen days – rather than keeping the Easter break to a long weekend.

Managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, Gareth Robinson, says: "We've definitely seen a change in booking this Easter – customers seem to want to escape the UK, and the constant reminders of recession. As a result they are booking longer escapes to favourites such as Switzerland, the Algarve and Florida, and also newer locations – for example the Atlantic Coast in Portugal.
