www.travelandtransitions.com educates and encourages visitors with quality articles and interviews on how to explore new horizons, to get out there and discover the world - locally and abroad, to connect with people from different cultures and to open themselves up to new experiences. In addition to providing practical money-saving tips and destination information, this website intends to foster tolerance and understanding for people from other places and other cultures. Travel and Transitions publisher Susanne Pacher recently travelled to Vancouver, British Columbia, to cover the first Canada-US Servas Conference. Servas is a an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization that brings together travellers and hosts from more than 130 countries around the world for the purpose of fostering understanding, tolerance and world peace. Hosts generally agree to host travellers free of charge for 2 nights and 3 days to allow for an intercultural exchange. Servas is different from other hospitality exchange organizations in that it has a dedicated mission to foster peace and intercultural understanding. It uses a thorough screening and interviewing process to ensure that future travellers and hosts are compatible with the organization's philosophies.
Servas members from Canada and the United States got together for three days this August in Vancouver to explore the concept of travelling for peace. Coverage of the Servas conference can be found at http://www.travelandtransitions.com/stories_photos/hello_vancouver_6.htm
