Women on Top at House of Colour Ltd.
January 23, 2009 (PRLEAP.COM) Lifestyle News
Four women have taken the entrepreneurial step of becoming Owner Directors of their company, making House of Colour Ltd one of the only companies within the UK to have an all-female board. Helen Venables, Jackie Perkins, Alison Riches and Diana Blakeman are setting the course for the next chapter of the organisation's growth. With consistent growth over the past 24 years and consultants in 19 countries, the two original directors recognised that to maintain this trend, more strength was needed at the top.
The latest Equality and Human Right Commission statistics show only 11% of FTSE 100 companies currently with a female board member, yet studies show companies with women in senior positions demonstrate the best organisational and financial performance. Several countries now set targets for the number of board seats held by women e.g. Spain: 4 out of 10 female board seats to be held by women within 7 years. However, women want to be board members because of their talents, visions, skills and credentials not to satisfy targets.
With personnel, IT, change management, learning and development, retail, accountancy, coaching, agriculture and process re-engineering experience, the House of Colour team prove their worth.
Much of House of Colour's success comes from its ability to understand and connect with its customers, recognising that people are discerning about how they buy and what they spend on themselves. Increasingly, men and women understand that their appearance communicates; finding a way to authentically express their individuality and personal brand is key to development and success individually and in business.
'Investor in People' was recently re-awarded to House of Colour; a standard very much at the heart of the organisation's philosophy. "We are proud of our people, both office staff and franchised consultants," comments Helen Venables, Director of Franchise Development. "We believe in supporting people to achieve their full potential."
In these uncertain economic times it is refreshing to see companies continuing to grow: expanding not 'downsizing'; introducing new skills and talents not letting them go; and growing their leadership teams not shrinking them.
The House of Colour team is aware of the challenges ahead and know the climate they operate in. Driving them is the potential they see, the vision they hold and their shared aspirations for the future of this unique organisation. You can find out more at http://www.houseofcolour.co.uk
