Chicago IL October 1st - The House of Payne, an art collective consisting of Martin Garcia, Dan Findley, and Sue Frame is based in West Pilsen in Chicago. This October 1st in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, in the newly opened Zhou B Center on 35th and Morgan the House of Payne is producing Master Nowhere’s Lost Carnival. This is a one night only event evocative of a traveling carnival circa 1890’s. Commanding 20,000 sq ft this event will feature a freak show, geek shows, wandering performers as well as a main stage attraction, gamming alley, a mystic card reader, and lounge. Stage performances by Carolyn Hoerdemann, Hellcat Hussies, Ex-Wing, Nick Lowe, and Forms in Motion as well as a gamming alley that will include Edmar of Select and Lumpen magazines, Uncle Freddys Gallery, Michael Bulka, Nick Black, Bill Boyce, and The Emperor of Ephemera: Anthony Stagg. The House of Payne works in conjunction with an extensive network of collaborators to produce single night events fusing a number of mediums to create unique, invitation only events. In order to engage and challenge the audience we have given them the opportunity to recreate themselves within a given historic time period. Interacting with artwork and creators of these events provides a higher level of engagement and entertainment with the audience than available in any party, play or gallery opening.
Members of the House of Payne have worked with institutions such as the American Visionary Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Chicago Cultural Center, and Theater of Moscow Southwest creating events and performances.
