Phoload launches free mobile software downloads for the Android platform

Phoload, a community website built around free downloadable mobile software, has announced support for Google's Android platform. Phoload hosts free mobile games and applications that have been uploaded directly to the site by mobile software developers. With a fresh, clean interface, Phoload has been rapidly gaining in popularity since its launch, just two months ago.

As of today, Phoload is offering downloadable freeware, demo and ad-supported software created for the Android platform and compatible with the recently released T-Mobile G1 phone. A few examples of the variety of applications already available on the site include: Toodoo by Édouard Mercier, offering audio, video, and geographically-based reminders; FotMob by Score Service, featuring live updates from major European football leagues; and the vOICe for Android by Peter Meijer, an artificial vision system which uses sensory substitution to aid blind people. While Google's own Android Market will likely dominate the Android application distribution space, Jamie believes that there is a place for other application download stores, such as Phoload.
