Baxa Corporation Launches The Virtual Compounder
November 01, 2008 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Englewood, Colo. – Baxa Corporation announces the launch of a unique interactive training capability, referred to as The Virtual Compounder, which enhances its existing Web-based training tool for sterile compounding education. The Virtual Compounder is an innovative series of training lessons that allows users not only to read and memorize materials, but to demonstrate a clear understanding and proficiency in the concepts. This new interactive training tool has been incorporated into CriticalPoint's ACPE-approved training program. Through the Virtual Compounder, users are required to walk through a hands-on training session on their desktop. Its step-by-step lessons help ensure safe compounding practices, thereby improving patient safety. The addition of this specialized interactive component to the existing CriticalPoint training strengthens user retention and enhances the overall user experience. CriticalPoint's Learning Management System (LMS), offers access from any Web connection and provides administrative reporting for tracking employee progress and compliance.
Pharmacist Phil Wettestad, Baxa Pharmacy Operations Specialist, notes, "The simplicity of this product is significant. Without leaving the pharmacy, personnel learn the key information and are shown how to implement it within their facility." The first module in the Virtual Compounder, entitled Proper Personnel Cleansing and Garbing Procedures, provides pharmacy compounding personnel with an original, advanced teaching method for learning the proper methods for hand hygiene, garbing and gloving to safely prepare for sterile compounding. Future lessons include Solution Preparation, Primary Engineering Control (LAFW, BSC, CAI & CACI) Cleaning, Daily and Monthly Cleaning, Material Handling and Hazardous Spill Clean-up.
Authored by top industry experts and ASHP members Eric S. Kastango, Jim Wagner, Patricia Kienle, Luci Power, Holly Simmons and Kate Douglass among others; CriticalPoint is a comprehensive solution for sterile compounding, training, competency evaluation and personnel certification. The program covers practical skills for environment sampling and quality assurance in a state-of-the-art e-learning format; allowing pharmacies to gain compliance and expertise without leaving their facility.
CriticalPoint is a product of CriticalPoint, LLC. Baxa Corporation markets the CriticalPoint compliance training modules as part of its Productivity and Compliance Tools (PACT) product line, which includes the Skills Training, Academics and Resources (STAR) Center classroom-based training for USP 797 compliance and aseptic compounding. Together, the programs represent a complete solution for pharmacy compliance training in sterile compounding.
