CEA Expands Commitment to Academic Quality in Study Abroad

Tempe, AZ – October 3, 2008 — CEA, a leading study abroad & global education provider with six campuses worldwide, announced major enhancements to its academic structure including a new Academic Advisory Board and several new appointments to its academic structure.

Founded in 1996, CEA has helped educate over 15,000 alumni offering study abroad and global education programs in 15 countries worldwide. CEA has developed and implemented over 130 student-centered, active learning courses throughout its worldwide GlobalCampus network. CEA students gain international experience and cross-cultural competencies while completing academically rigorous courses designed to create global leaders in the 21st century.

CEA's newly-formed Academic Advisory Board will provide academic oversight and advise CEA's academic leadership on world-class policies, global education programs, course design and assessment practices. The Board will also ensure tight integration of CEA curriculum with rigorous standards for academic quality set by the University of New Haven, CEA's accreditation partner. The Commission on Higher Education of the New England Association for Schools and Colleges (CIHE/NEASC) has approved the partnership between CEA and the University of New Haven. CEA is the only study abroad organization to earn such approval from a US regional accrediting body.

Mr. Brian Boubek, founder and Chairman of CEA, has appointed Dr. Geoffrey Bannister, Dr. Michael Woolf, and Dr. William Davey as initial members of the Board. Additional invitations are also in process. Dr. Bannister, previously President of CEA, has recently accepted a new position as President of Schiller International University. However, Dr. Bannister will continue to advise CEA through the Academic Advisory Board. Dr. Michael Woolf is President of the Foundation for International Education (FIE) in London. Dr. Davey is Vice President of Development for CEA and previously served as Director of International Programs at Arizona State University.

In addition to his new role as member of the CEA Academic Advisory Board, Dr. William Davey is taking on an expanded position as Vice President for Development. In this position, Dr. Davey will work to develop sustainable domestic and international partnerships, oversee CEA's custom programming, maintain the UNH relationship, and work to create an innovative curriculum within the CEA GlobalCampus Network. Dr. Davey earned his Ph.D. at Indiana University and is a recognized scholar in international and intercultural communication. He is active in NAFSA, AIEA, EAIE, and The Forum on Education Abroad. As a business consultant, Dr. Davey's international communications expertise has benefitted several Fortune 500 companies, including Intel, American Express, and Honeywell.

Dr. Melinda McClelland, an expert in organizational development and effectiveness, has also joined CEA as Director of Global Curriculum Development. Dr. McClelland has an extensive background in international education and global business and consults with global leaders such as Motorola, Intel, and Prudential on best practices in diversity, global business, strategy and management effectiveness, and performance excellence. Dr. Davey and Dr. McClelland will work together to infuse curriculum for the CEA GlobalCampus Network with active and experiential learning in global competence.

CEA is also conducting a global search for a senior international educator to serve as Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs to provide oversight for curriculum, methods of instruction, policies and procedures and staff development. The Provost will lead the CEA academic community, appoint leading international educators and administrators to positions at CEA GlobalCampus Network sites, and ensure quality and integrity of academic delivery.
