Selection Criteria
From Feb. 1, 2001 to Feb. 1, 2005, the scientist must have satisfied at least one of the following:

- Correspondent author of a paper published in at least one of the top 50 life science journals (according to Journal Citation Reports® 2004)
- Correspondent author of more than 5 papers published in journals listed in the Science Citation Index (SCI®)
- Correspondent author of papers published in journals with a cumulative Impact Factor (ISI) of more than 5.0

Additional requirements
- Focus on the life sciences
- Under 60 years of age
- Conducted the majority of recent scientific work in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong and Taiwan)
- Majority of scientist's time spent in China (excluding Hong Kong and Taiwan)
