Washington DC, 2008 – The United Cerebral Palsy Research and Educational Foundation, Inc. announced today that it will change its name to Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation, Inc. in recognition of the international medical research efforts that are relevant to the cause, cure and evidence based care for those with cerebral palsy and related developmental disabilities. The foundation will no longer be associated with United Cerebral Palsy, Inc. "For over 55 years the Foundation has supported rigorous medical research throughout the United States", stated Dr Mindy Aisen, the CEO and Executive Director, "and in the past five years it has found opportunities to more rapidly and effectively promote research needs by taking a more global view. The Foundation provides guidance, funds and other resources to research programs in the Middle East (a USAID funded collaboration), Canada, Australia, Greece and Asia to fulfill its mission of supporting cerebral palsy medical research and disseminating medical discoveries."
The Foundation headquarters will remain in Washington DC at its current address of 1025 Connecticut Avenue, Suite 701. Its new website www.cpirf.org will provide an entryway to international knowledge about the most important leading edge research related to Cerebral Palsy and other neurologically based disorders. "We intend to provide regular updates about national and international scientific findings that have or will have impact on those with cerebral palsy and related developmental disabilities, provide guidance about the latest proven therapeutic interventions, webcasts of important courses and meetings, and, of course, information about the researchers we support," concludes Aisen.
