Computer Use Caution

New research involving nearsighted Japanese workers with a history of long-term computer use shows that there appeared to be a link between glaucoma and heavy computer use in nearsighted individuals. The average age of the study participants was 43. Glaucoma http://www.neovisioneyecenter.com/glaucoma_faq.html, which is caused by damage to the optic nerve, results in blind spot or visual impairments that can rob individuals of their sight. While smoking and high blood pressure are potential risk factors, Japanese researchers believe that excessive computer use may also play a role in nearsighted (myopic) individuals. About 5% of the workers in the study had visual field abnormalities possibly related to glaucoma. A further test revealed that about one-third of them had suspected glaucoma.
