Good Food in Mexico City: A Guide to Food Stalls, Fondas and Fine Dining, by Nicholas Gilman, has won the Gourmand World Cookbook award as “Best Guide of 2007”, announced Edouard Cointreau, president of Gourmand, in a ceremony at the Olympia Theatre in London, April 13th. The awards ceremony was held in conjuction with the London Book Fair. Good Food in Mexico City, published by iUniverse and available at all online booksellers, is the first comprehensive dining out guide to Mexico City written in English (a French edition, La Bonne Bouffe á Mexico is also available). In recent years Mexico’s capital has become a popular destination for travelers seeking authentic and traditional cuisine. The city offers an astounding range of eating establishments, from simple food stalls to elegant restaurants. This book guides the reader to out-of-the-way market stalls, authentic taco joints, as well as current high-end hot-spots on the culinary scene. Included are chapters on bars, cantinas, cafés, and food shopping, and several essays which introduce readers to the fascinating world of Mexican cuisine. It is written by resident gastronome and active Slow Food organizer Nicholas Gilman, who recently celebrated the publication of the book in a well attended event at one of the capitol's chicest hotspots, Restaurant Contramar.
