The Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity feature a special version of Alice Peacock’s “Into the Light” as their May Song of the Month and vocation reflection at www.fscc-calledtobe.org/living/ .Observed Franciscan Sister Mary Carol, “Come into the Light,” a phrase repeated numerous times in this song, has powerful meaning during spring, a season of new life and at the end of the semester, a season of stepping back and reflecting on all that has been. Each of us should reflect on the gifts God has given us and how we use them to spread the Gospel message of the Resurrection. Acceptance of ourselves is one of the steps to becoming the person God wants us to be. Our faults and failures lead us continually to ask, seek, knock, and find. (Matthew 7:24)
According to Alice Peacock, “I wrote “Into the Light” as a reminder to myself that as long as I continually turn to and search out the Light/Love/God, I would be on the right path to become the person that I was born to be. This song was originally written and performed on guitar but I like the sacred aspect that playing it on the piano brings.”
“Into the Light” is accompanied by a Pentecost image taken from Resurrection Parish near Green Bay. Responding to the many young adults who visit the Franciscanized World, Sr. Mary Ann Spanjers, OSF wrote of the window’s depiction of the Holy Spirit’s descent “As high school and college students approach the end of this academic year may the Holy Spirit of light and love penetrate your in-most being with strength, direction, and peace.”
“We want to present our life as a viable option. Personal invitation is always best; however, we became convinced that real conversations can begin by using the language of images and music.” says Sr. Julie Ann Sheahan, OSF, Directress of Vocations for the Franciscan order.
Established in 1869, the Roman Catholic Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity serve in Catholic health care, education and parish ministries in 13 U.S. dioceses (Green Bay, Superior, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Tucson, Honolulu, Chicago, Marquette, Jackson, Lincoln, Omaha, Columbus and Steubenville).
