Bay City, MI – Chanting Books Press (http://www.chantingmonks.com/) and Comic Book Scoop (http://www.comicbookscoop.com/) announce that they are teaming-up to sponsor a contest sure to delight comic book and horror fans alike. Chanting Monks Press is graciously providing a copy of their Flowers on the Razorwire DVD package to the lucky winner of the contest. Flowers on the Razorwire #1 is a DVD that comes complete with a digest sized erotic horror anthology featuring two gut-tearing original tales. The first, by Anthony Ruggiero (Agony in Black) takes place on a rabbit farm where a bloody uprising is going to scare the pants off of you, while the revolting Welcome to Juarez, by Gary Francis (Young Dracula) and illustrated by hot newcomer, Troy Boyle, takes you into the nasty underground of a white slavery ring in Mexico where they are breeding the next generation of dog fighters from hell… Fully painted covers are supplied by Ken Meyer Jr. (Cry for Dawn, Zacherley's Midnite Terrors).
Packaged together with the first issue of Flowers is the original short film Chance Meeting, based on Joseph M. Monks' critically acclaimed short story of the same name from his collection, Stuff Out'a My Head. Directed by Flowers creator Hart D. Fisher (Poems for the Dead, NightCry, Verotik) this film revolves around Yuko, a sexy, young Asian girl trapped in an elevator with a boiler repairman who might just be Los Angeles' worst serial killer ever. Released in Japan in late 2003, the film has been an enormous success internationally. Chance Meeting was THE sensation at the 2003 New York City Horror Film Festival.
As an added bonus, Chanting Monks Press is also throwing in a signed paperback copy of it's horror anthology, Stuff Out'a My Head. Stuff Out'a My Head features, among others, the long-awaited original version of the story Tokens (originally adapted for the comic book Cry For Dawn); the revolting inner-city gang-initiation tale, Brutal; and Monks' latest work, Porn — the story that will have you cringing at its conclusion. Wrightson, who has supplied illustrations for the likes of Stephen King and David J. Show novels, offers up his own full-page illustrations for each story in this 128 page anthology that's perfect for any horror buff.
“We're happy to see new and interactive web sites promoting comics and comic creators in their various projects,” said Joseph M. Monks, founder of Chanting Monks Press. “Since the real winners are the fans, we figured we'd add to the winnings by sponsoring a contest to publicize the launch of this fun, new web site.”
Comic Book Scoop is a one of the newest and fastest growing sites on the web dedicated to creating a community where comic fans, artists, writers, professionals, amateurs and curious bystanders can exchange information and opinions about the latest events in the industry, reminisce about the past, collaborate on new projects, and brainstorm ways to expand the ranks of comic fans.
Comic Book Scoop incorporates blogging technology which will allow individuals to create their own blog, or online journal, to write about whatever interests them. “The focus of the site will be comics,” added Chad Halsey, the owner of the site, “but I want it to be more about building a community where all of the members just happen to be comic fans.”
Comic Book Scoop also uses RSS (Really Simple Syndication) technology to allow users to syndicate content from the site into a newsreader and will incorporate RSS feeds from comic publishers and creators who provide them. “I want to make Comic Book Scoop a one-stop location for people to read about news, previews and reviews of the latest happenings in the industry,” said Chad.
Chanting Monks Press is the home of horror and a helluva lot more. The publishing company has conquered comic books, paperback publishing, hardcover publishing, and branched out into portfolios, apparel and recently, film. The company, whose creators have included Bernie Wrightson, Ken Kelly, Basil Gogos, William Stout, Robert Tinnell, Todd Livingstone, Joe Chiodo, Mike Koneful, Mark Texiera, Buzz, and of course founder Joe Monks among others, continues to produce top-notch horror-genre material for the comic and entertainment fan.
This Fall, Monks, Jeff Salisbury and Mike Koneful will be releasing a new, ongoing horror series entitled Gory Lori, which furthers the zombie storyline explored by Monks and Wrightson in the Gardens of the Dead portfolio, and Monks will be lensing the second installment of the Flowers on the Razorwire series. You will be hearing about all of it right here at http://www.comicbookscoop.com/.
Due to the graphic nature of the material being offered as a prize in this contest, the winner will be required to be of legal age in their respective state and provide proof of their age. Full contest rules and the entry form can be found at http://www.comicbookscoop.com/contest.
