From a field that included notable businesses such as Keturah Day Spa and Cowara Contractors Pty Ltd, CommtechWireless was deemed the best business with between 20 and 50 full-time employees (the Panasonic Australia Business Award category).

The Telstra & Australian Governments’ Small Business Awards began in 1992 with the aim of recognising the accomplishments and innovations of the small business sector in Australia. The aim was to reward the contribution that small business makes to the Australian economy from within a demanding environment.

Nathan Buzza, CommtechWireless CEO said, “Of the many awards our company has received, this is undoubtedly the most prestigious. For our dedicated staff, it represents public recognition of their uncompromising commitment to creating the most advanced wireless systems possible.”

In the twelve years since its inception, CommtechWireless has amassed a customer base of 4,500 sites spanning 53 countries. Throughout the past decade, the company has demonstrated unparalleled commitment to the development of leading-edge wireless infrastructure.

The award ceremony was held on Tuesday, 19th of July in the opulent surroundings of the five-star Hyatt Regency Hotel in Perth. At $120 a ticket, seating was at a premium and many prominent guests were on hand – including the HON John D'Orazio MLA (Minister for Justice; Small Business) and Dr. Mal Washer (Member for Moore). While some nominees took advantage of the political platform afforded them, CommtechWireless CEO Nathan Buzza gave an eloquent, yet unprepared, speech thanking his hard working team.

Other awards received by CommtechWireless in the last two years include the CY O’Connor Award for Excellence in Engineering & Technology, the Emerging Exporter Award and the Information and Communications Export Award from the Department of Industry & Technology.

Most recently, CommtechWireless’ innovative products have been used by the US Military to monitor and report on the traffic of nuclear material into the country from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. A sensor, which is mounted in a motored vehicle, detects radiation within a given radius. When radiation is detected, the sensor device communicates with an alarm paging system via a transmitter. A message is then sent to the pager of an authorized personnel member on duty.

The latest Research & Development undertaking at CommtechWireless is a $1.8 million project to create a new IP-based integrated messaging platform designed for customers in healthcare, emergency services and hospitality. The new integrated messaging system is known as the ‘Compact Series’ and will allow staff in the security, emergency services, production, building and facilities management industries to respond quickly and efficiently to critical and time-sensitive information.
