They’re Free, Doggone It! Local Restaurant Chosen For National Hot Dog Giveaway

Longtime local favorite Billy’s Deli & Café and Catering was chosen by Vienna Beef to highlight this year’s National Hot Dog Day Wednesday.

The first 100 customers to come to Billy’s Deli & Café (216 N. Orange St.) Wednesday (after 11AM) will be given the delicious hickory-smoked Vienna Beef Hot Dog compliments of Billy’s and Vienna Beef.

“We chose Vienna Beef for quality. Now Vienna Beef has chosen Billy’s to highlight this national day. Thirty-Eight percent of Hot Dog sales, just over $600 million dollars¸ take place in June, July and August nationally. Billy’s will give customers a chance to try this wonderful product on the National Hot Dog Day”, said Nancy Misensol, Regional Vice President of Billy’s.

“Americans eat 20 billion hot dogs a year. Last year, Los Angeles purchased the most pounds of hot dogs in retail stores (42,273,360 lbs.) in the United States. Just down the road, Dodger Stadium sells ($1.61 million) more hot dogs then any other major league ballpark”, continued Misensol.

If the recent July 4th holiday is any indication, Hot Dogs are of special interest during the summer. It was estimated over $150 million was spent on Hot Dogs during that the recent holiday which three-fourths of Americans considered the “Hot Dog Holiday”. Thirteen percent equate Hot Dogs and Memorial Day, second in the survey.

Although Vienna Beef is nearing 115 years (and Billy’s Glendale is coming up on it’s 58th birthday), VB remains a family-run business with a hometown flavor. “Though Vienna enjoys a strong retail presence, it's the restaurants and hot dog stands that have made us who we are” as stated on the Vienna Beef website.
