OpineTree Launches New Debate Website
July 18, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Politics News
OpineTree recently announced the launch of a new debate website (www.OpineTree.com) to encourage debate on today’s most controversial and popular political issues.Started by two recent Harvard graduates, OpineTree is a premier online destination for political debate. The website focuses on popular and controversial political topics, and will soon become the internet's best place to analyze and vet candidates for local and national political office.
According to OpineTree’s founders, the debate website currently focuses on the Top Ten most hotly contested political topics: Abortion, Affirmative Action, Cloning, the Death Penalty, Euthanasia, Gay Marriage, Gun Control, Health Care, Social Security, and Stem Cells.
Now in its initial launch, OpineTree encourages debate through a blog format. Over time the website will take on various forms, including bulletin boards, polls, and more community-oriented features. In addition to national debate topics open to the general public, smaller groups will soon be able to log into www.OpineTree.com to privately debate their particular concerns. Whether a corporation deciding between financing options, a town council weighing different budget proposals, or a student community choosing its class president, OpineTree will be customizable.
According to its founders, OpineTree helps to simplify the complex debates dominating political discourse. True to its name, a later version of OpineTree will feature “tree” images that visually outline the most popular debating points for various topics. To ensure ease of use, these “tree” images will be zoomable. In time, as OpineTree develops, the community's votes will automatically render their own “trees,” helping to clarify what are often challenging and controversial debates.
While they are currently focusing on the most popular political topics, the founders' long-term goal is to create the premier site for vetting candidates for the 2006 and 2008 congressional and presidential elections. In addition, the website will use its unique tree format to design teaching materials for middle and high school students.
