Christmas Music 24/7 Internet Radio Station Hits One Million Listener Hours

Woodbridge VA, December 19, 2007 - Christmas Music 24/7 broadcasted its one millionth hour of music last week. The station is part of a network of year-round Christmas music Internet radio stations all programmed by one man, Michael Clark, from his home.

Christmas Music 24/7 is the oldest station in a network of five different Internet radio stations, each playing a different genre of Christmas music. The station, which plays Traditional Christmas music, was launched in November 2004 on a whim. Since then that station has had more than 1.2 million listeners from around the world. In December 2007 alone there have been listeners to the station from 167 countries.

While attending Virginia Tech in the ‘80s, Clark was a disc jockey for the campus radio station, WUVT-AM/FM. “I really enjoyed sitting in a little room playing music and talking with a handful of people on the phone. After graduating, I was able to relive those memories playing the music I love by using my home computer. I never thought I would have an impact on people around the world from my home office.”

Clark began webcasting Christmas music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in November 2004. He is using the services of Live365, a California company that makes it easy to start webcasting. He kept the Christmas station active throughout 2005 to test the market. Amazingly, there were always a few people listening every month. Christmas Music 24/7 was the 33rd most popular station of Live365’s 10,000 stations in December 2005.

For 2006, Clark purchased an upgraded broadcast package from Live365 so he could have more simultaneous listeners. For the 2006 Christmas season, the station averaged 625 listeners during United States business hours, and never had less than 200 listeners overnight. The station was the third most popular station of Live365’s 10,000 stations in December 2006.

On January 1, 2007, based on feedback from listeners, he started a second Christmas station, playing only instrumental Christmas music. He plans to continue webcasting in 2008, and possibly add even more stations in other genres of Christmas music.
