Tempe, AZ - In line with Open Doors’ recently released data that study abroad enrollment increased nearly nine percent during the 2006-2007 academic year, CEA, a leading study abroad program provider for university and college students in the U.S. and Canada, also experienced unprecedented growth. In the 2006-2007 academic year, CEA reports having enrolled nearly 30 percent more students in study abroad programs compared to the previous year, and reports a nearly three-fold increase in enrollment over the last five years. The increase in the number of U.S. students who study abroad is compounded by a growing interest in European destinations. The 10 most popular destinations, according to Open Doors’ 2007 data, are as follows:
1. United Kingdom
2. Italy
3. Spain
4. France
5. Australia
6. Mexico
7. China
8. Germany
9. Costa Rica
10. Ireland
Offering programs in the top 10 study abroad destinations, CEA has experienced an influx of college students interested in studying at European destinations with 12 percent selecting Italy, 41 percent selecting Spain and 16 percent selecting France. In response to the growing need and interest, CEA has expanded its program offerings by establishing signature CEA GlobalCampus Network sites in these countries, with more developing sites on the horizon. Designed to bridge international education with emerging technology and Millennial student learning techniques, CEA’s GlobalCampus Network has established sites in Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Paris, Florence and Rome.
In addition to the popular destinations of study, Open Doors reports that the top three disciplines of study among Americans who study abroad are social sciences, business and management, and humanities. This finding is closely aligned with the vast array of programs CEA offers, in particular through the CEA GlobalCampus Network. Last year, CEA responded to student demand by adding social sciences programs in Madrid, Seville and Prague; business and management offerings in Rome, Madrid and London; and humanities courses in Seville.
