DOYLESTOWN, PA (November 30, 2007) – The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center hosted the grand opening of its second building in Bucks County on November 12, 2007. The Pavilion of the new building is named after Dr. Joshua Feldstein in recognition of his valuable contribution in forging the unique partnership between the Hepatitis B Foundation and Delaware Valley College that resulted in the creation of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center in 2006, which is located at 3805 Old Easton Road in Doylestown, Pa. Dr. Timothy Block, President of the Hepatitis B Foundation and the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center, and Dr. Joseph Brosnan, President of Delaware Valley College, spoke on behalf of the Center and its decision to honor Dr. Feldstein. “There is such satisfaction in seeing Dr. Feldstein’s name on the new building since we owe him such a great debt,” said Block. This sentiment was echoed by Brosnan. “There is so much possibility here at the biotech center, and it represents the striking leadership that Dr. Feldstein has shown for the past 60 years here in Bucks County.”
Other dignitaries who spoke at this ceremony to help open and dedicate the new building included Congressman Patrick Murphy who made a special announcement that a federal grant of $815,000 will be available to seed potential biotech entrepreneurs in the area. These funds will be managed by the Hepatitis B Foundation’s research institute at the PA Biotech Center. State representatives Marguerite Quinn and Kathy Watson spoke about the excitement that new biotech center is bringing to the area, then presented a special citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to Dr. Feldstein that extolled his “commitment and integrity of the highest caliber.”
The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center, originally a 62,000 square foot facility, is now a 10 acre, 100,000 sq. foot research facility – considered the most significant biotech center in the region. The acquisition of the second building comes just one year after the Center opened.
A joint partnership of the Hepatitis B Foundation and Delaware Valley College, the Center is a place of discovery, education and job creation with a shared vision of sustaining the vitality and beauty of Bucks County and the region.
