Pune, November 29: Pune (india) based Pranav Agro Industries have launched Smart Balance Low Glycemic Index Health rice which will prove extremely beneficial for persons suffering for diabetes and obesity and also a complete family health rice for the first time in the country .Speaking to reporters Mr. Pravin Lunkad Chairman of the Pranav Group of industries said that the Smart Balance Moolgiri Rice is an innovative product from Pranav’s Health Food Division , which is low in the Glycemic Index which will in turn help people manage weight, help in diabetes management, Improve blood cholesterol level and educe the risk of heart disease, Keeps one full for longer and provides satiety and Prolongs physical endurance
This rice has been developed after intensive research in the field of Glycemic Index that has found to have functional food benefits like Weight control, Diabetic Nutritional Care, increase in insulin levels and maintain high energy levels.
The Smart Balance Rice is tested at GI Labs, Toronto, Canada and certified as Low GI Rice with the GI Symbol programme of the University of Sydney, Australia. The Glycemic Index (GI) has been recommended to help/guide food choice, because low GI foods have been shown to reduce blood glucose in people with various physiological disorders
Mr. Amit Kothari Executive Director of Pranav Agro industries Food division added that Today around 25% of the diabetic population of around 15 crores is in our country and the type 1 juvenile diabetes is expected to further increase this population Smart Balance will prove to be boon for patients and persons who have asked to keep off rice, which is a staple food in many parts of the country
It is the only medium grain, polished white rice with low Glycemic Index. The Smart Balance Rice is produced by specially patented ‘Hydro-thermal process’ that helps to modify amylose into the resistant starch.
He added that this rice is specially cultivated by trained farmers who strictly adhere Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) and the cultivation process is monitored and guided by the company’s professionally trained field staff.
Smart Balance Rice will be initially available with select retailers and Malls in the city and will be launched in Mumbai , Nagpur, Kolhapur, Nasik and Aurangabad
Speaking on Glycemic Index , The technical director of company Dr Asha Kembhavi said Glycemic Index is defined as the ability of a food to raise the blood glucose levels expressed as a score.” The Glycemic Index (GI) is a system of ranking the quality of carbohydrates in foods according to the immediate effect they have on the blood glucose levels.
Carbohydrates with low GI (less than 55) are the best source of energy for the heart, muscles and most of other vital human organs. Carbohydrates with low GI make our blood glucose rise slowly and fall gently over a longer period of time as compared to carbohydrates with high GI (more than 70) are digested quickly causing hyperglycemia. While Rice has a GI of (70), Sugar (100) , Wheat (90) , Jowar (77) while Smart Balance has a GI of only 48.
