America’s seniors are at risk. Money-hungry court-appointed involuntary guardianship members are becoming a growing threat. Court-ordered involuntary guardianship is meant to protect elderly persons. Instead so-called “protective” measures can legally rob the senior of his or her civil rights and life savings. Further, the court permits the guardian to use the senior’s estate to fight the senior. Guardians have their own attorneys. Who pays? The senior pays for the guardian’s attorneys and every individual hired by the guardianship.

Author Stephanie Siddall Germack, a licensed professional counselor and a nationally certified counselor, has written a book, “Legal and Financial Exploitation of Our Elders,” which tells the true story of her mother’s challenge as a ward of the Hamilton County Probate Court in Cincinnati, Ohio. Restricted from all information about her mother’s case except from a public website, Ms. Siddall Germack also shares her personal experiences of attempting to communicate with family and guardianship members to protect her mother’s assets and restore her mother’s civil rights and freedom to the maximum level that her abilities allow.

One extraordinary article quoted in Ms. Siddall Germack’s book is, “Rampant Elder Abuse and Fraud in Adult Guardianship,” from Money Magazine, “Guardianship is all about money… the laws (that every state in the nation has passed to control the conduction of a guardianship) are universally ignored… if you or a well-meaning relative try to fight this system, the court allows the guardian to use your money (the ward’s money) to fight you (the ward).” http://probate1.com

Ms. Siddall Germack says, “My goal in writing ‘Legal and Financial Exploitation of our Elders’ is to build awareness, improve guardianship standards and laws, and protect our elders from this escalating epidemic of intent to profit at the expense of the “ward.” My mother, Mary C. Siddall asked me to do what I can to help her and others that are experiencing similar ordeals with our probate courts.”
