The new online language learning provider Palabea will launch its service which tackles some of the cultural and linguistic implications of globalisation.
Leonard Orban, who is European Commissioner for Multilingualism, also recognises the importance of learning languages in response to changing cultural and political climates.
“In today’s context of globalisation, mobility and migration, multilingualism can offer new answers for citizens and for our society”, says Orban.
Directors of Palabea say that extensive research and discussions with specialists in linguistics and politics had identified the importance of language learning to bridge cultural divides.
“Access to language is one of the first steps to cross-cultural empathy. Right now there is a lack in online language learning networks where people from around the world can learn their
neighbour’s language,’’ says the team at Palabea.
Palabea offers an innovative way to learn languages by collaborating with others using audio and visual learning aids. The virtual classrooms also enable people from all over the world to communicate with each other.
Palabea’s online learning community makes foreign languages familiar languages by
connecting people through uploaded video lessons and podcasts that help improve language skills.
‘’The service is free to use and easily accessible; all you need is an internet connection, a valid email address, and ideally, a webcam and microphone. It’s a unique online network that enables people to be part of an international language learning community’’, says the Palabea
team.
