Committing to divert Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo (CWRE) waste from the landfill, the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre and Messe Frankfurt, the expo’s organizer, are locking the trash compactors for the entire event, Nov. 28-29, and striving to make on-site recycling easy. “As the largest and only national trade show in Canada serving the waste, recycling and public works markets, we have a commitment to doing our part to help sustain the environment,” said Arnie Gess, CWRE’s show manager. “This first-of-its-kind Zero-Waste recycling project will set a standard for the industry as well as other events to follow.”
Demonstrating its commitment to the Zero-Waste program, the show and convention center will increase the accessibility of easily-recycled materials and collection systems. It is encouraging its exhibitors to use recyclable materials in their booths and remove all materials they bring in. The convention center also will use recycable and reusable materials in food service.
Happy Stan’s Recycling Services Ltd., the program administer, will supply on-site staff to respond to questions and concerns, and will perform a detailed audit of the initiative to show its results.
