Webster Printing of Hanson, Mass., providers of fine commercial printing to local, regional and national clients, has gone “green” and is in the process of obtaining Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.

Webster Printing is the only green printer on South Shore going through the official FSC credentialing process, with approval expected in February 2008. Over the years, Webster Printing has made significant environmentally-conscious modifications which include switching to soy ink and improvements in energy efficiency.

FSC certification is the most trusted and valued system of responsible forest management. FSC is renowned for their rigorous chain of custody program. FSC consistently strives to conserve natural forests; protect high conservation values and ensure environmentally responsible, economically viable and socially responsible forestry practices. Many major brands, including Pottery Barn, Build-A-Bear Workshop and Williams-Sonoma, Inc., have committed to operating in an environmentally sound manner by choosing FSC certified vendors. The FSC label may be found on marketing materials, catalogs, reports, packaging materials and more.

On Thursday, November 29th, from 6 to 8 p.m., Webster Printing, in cooperation with FSC Certified suppliers Lindenmeyr Munroe and Mohawk Fine Papers, will hold an informational session about FSC certification at the Scarlet Oak Tavern, at 1217 Main Street in Hingham. Industry experts will talk about bona fide “green printing”.

Marketing and advertising professionals, business owners and all others responsible for buying print materials who are concerned about the environment are invited to attend. Complimentary light refreshments will be served and there will be a cash bar.

“The informational session at Scarlet Oak is an effort to raise awareness and educate the design and agency community in the South Shore area about the green movement.
