Luis Luna: Colombian Art Exhibition in Zurich: Top Contemporary Latin American Art
November 14, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
The Unconscious Impulses of Luis Luna have taken him to the top of recognition in the realm of international contemporary art and nowadays, in his home country of Colombia, he is recognized as being one of the countries future top talents to receive the crown of succession from such mighty and revered names in the Colombian art world as Botero, Grau and Obregn.Yet this young artist, who still in his 40s has made incredible contributions to extending the inter-relations he creates between art, literature and history through his paintings, to develop his own poetic language in his artworks, feels that he still has an immensity of feeling and thoughts that he has yet to express through his own inimitable artistic style.
Luna has been lauded for his uncommon techniques of employing glass, metals and a host of different materials in his work, intertwining their aesthetic presentation and sensory elements with words that have touched him from historical texts and literature, binding them all within his paintings. These elements are an extension of this artist, his mind and his soul, and at the same time link his thoughts to the historical and cultural development humanity as a whole as expressed through his art.
Not content with texts from his own country he has even delved into those works of other countries (indeed he also speaks several languages including German and English as well as his native Spanish) to provide within his work a base of cross-cultural expression that also transcends time and history itself.
But to understand this artist better, perhaps it is easier to listen to him in his own words when he says:
I am not an illustrator of ideas, that is what happens with many conceptual artists. I, basically, am a painter and as such I feed off of many things, from collage to literature. That is why my paintings become phrases. Nevertheless, my point of departure is that the painting has to be born from unconscious impulse.
The repertoire of work that is born within this artists soul, and expressed through his hands has created a new depth of meaning within art itself that can soon be shared by Europe as he starts his exhibition of most recent works at the Perez Rojas Gallery In Zurich, Switzerland.
The "vernissage" or formal opening occurs this Saturday, 17th November at 4pm and I urge you if you are in the area, to take an hour of your life and spend some time with the artist who will be present on the opening night, to understand not only the art of Luis Luna, but also the man.
