Starting on 26 October 2007, Candy Floss Crazy, the catering arm of JARM Amusements is committing to switching all of its speciality Victorian Catering Carts and general purpose catering units to the exclusive use of Fairtrade products (unless no Fairtrade option exists). The company have already switched all of their candy floss carts to Fairtrade sugar, the coffee carts have switched to Fairtrade beans and will be replacing their existing sugar sticks with a Fairtrade alternative by the end of November. Any additional or new catering services will be committed to using Fairtrade products as their first choice.Based at depots in the North East and West Yorkshire regions, Candy Floss Crazy operate nationwide with a range of catering services including popcorn, candy floss, crepes, ice cream and espresso coffee. Operating mainly in the corporate entertainments arena they additionally provide attractions at a number of traditional fairgrounds, and outdoor events, many of which are run by their parent company JARM Amusements. “By committing to the use of Fairtrade products we feel we are taking a small step towards helping some of those less fortunate than ourselves“, Said Arthur Newsome, Northern Area Events Manager, “We have been discussing this move with our corporate clients and their response has been 100% positive.”
In addition to their own switch to Fairtrade, the company will be asking other operators at their events to make a similar switch, with the intention that by the first quarter of 2009, preference will be given to Fairtrade friendly operators at all events supervised by the company, and by the end of 2009 it will be a requirement at their events for all operators to at least offer a Fairtrade alternative on their catering units.
