Savannah is a small city booming in every way, so when a new business comes to town, it’s nothing new. But, when that business offers a product that’s almost unheard of, well, that is new. Floor Depot is doing just that and its product is something the Coastal Empire, the state of Georgia, and even the country has never seen.Brazilian wood is being boasted as one of the toughest woods in the world, which makes for a pretty special floor. Not only is it quite appealing to the eye, but its benefits make it even more attractive.
Because of the strictly managed forests from where the wood comes, it is super strong. Anywhere from 3-10 times stronger than North American wood species. The reason, it is grown under the very strict guidelines of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture. The trees are grown in a rich soil that contributes to the overall strength of the tree and then ultimately the wood floor.
Also, when it comes to fire, this wood holds up like concrete. So if a house were to become engulfed in flames, there’s pretty good chance the hard floors would remain once that fire was put out.
“We’re so proud of what we’re doing,” says Don Ernst, owner of Floor Depot.
“This wood is amazing and to give local residents the opportunity to have it in their homes is an honor. This could, quite possibly, change the way we build our homes in this country.”
As for the price, different grades and species are available to fit any building or renovation budget. Both finished and unfinished wood products are available.
Floor Depot is serving as an importer to bring this high-end product into the Coastal Empire for distribution by representing one of the largest floor manufacturers in Brazil.
Floor Depot opened its doors in August and now serves several distributors in and around the United States.
