Helping Low Back Pain One Foot at a Time

Dr. Douglas Yost of Advanced Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic recently introduced a new technology to his practice with the addition of Foot Leveler’s Associate Platinum scanner.Shoreview, MN based chiropractor Dr. Douglas Yost has incorporated an effective new tool in helping patients with low back pain. With the incorporation of the Foot Leveler’s Associate Platinum scanner Dr. Yost now has the ability to quickly and accurately demonstrate how the feet can affect the low back.
What does low back pain have to do with your feet, you might ask. “Everything” says Dr. Douglas Yost. “There are many causes of low back pain, but spinal strain and postural fatigue account for 70% of the cases not caused by more serious conditions. Your feet are your foundation. Many common foot problems, like flat feet, plantar fascitis, and fallen arches not only affect your feet, but also the ankles, knees, hips, and low back. If the feet are not properly supported, you can have postural problems throughout your body. By the age of 20, nearly 80% of people have some kind of foot problem, and by age 40 almost everyone does.”
Foot Levelers provides a line of custom-made, flexible orthotics based on chiropractic research and innovative technology. Doctors can use the Associate Platinum scanner to digitally scan patient’s feet. They will then get a clear picture of how the feet are supporting the body’s weight, and if there is a loss of one of the three arches can determine whether or not a custom-made foot orthotic would be beneficial.
If you can answer yes to any of the following questions your low back pain may be coming from your feet.
· Do you stand or walk on hard surfaces for more than 4 hours daily?
· Do you participate regularly in any physical sport (basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, etc.)?
· Are you over age 40?
· Have you had a prior injury to your feet, knees, or back?
· Do your shoes wear unevenly?
· Do you have joint pain while standing, walking, or running?
· Is one of your legs shorter than the other?
· Do you have knock-knees or bow legs?
· Do you have obvious foot problems (bunions, plantar fascitis, flat feet, etc.)?
