Multilingualism has been an important part in the European project from the start – the first regulation in 1958 specified that all the official languages of the then European Economic Community should be on an equal footing. The founders expressed one of the guiding principles of the European Union with the words of the European motto: 'unity in diversity'.

This is what GlobalLanguageJobs.com came to further promote at this years language show and the result is overwhelming with connections being made and meetings set up with all the major language jobs recruiters.

‘We had the opportunity to speak with not only companies hiring for bilingual and multilingual vacancies but even more importantly the candidates’ said Jim Hart, Founder of GlobalLanguageJobs.com. ‘We found ourselves in the midst of the largest pool of multilingual candidate professionally working with languages from all over Europe and to be able to listen to what the candidates who are looking for languages jobs had to say was by far the most useful time spent during this weekend’.

The European Union has 27 members and 23 official languages and it is what colours the European map and to build a stronger Europe we must embrace this wealth of languages. The global landscape has changed and is what will ultimately keep Europe competitive in trading with the world.

Research into why firms are not active on foreign markets also shows that poor language skills are an obstacle to growth.

GlobalLanguageJobs.com works with businesses to highlight how languages can boost competitiveness, and how we can exploit opportunities to the full. Many businesses are involved in cross-border trade. And research shows a correlation between exports and productivity. Multilingualism gives industry a competitive advantage, for tapping into local markets, and servicing a diverse range of customers. The only reply to the question, 'What is the best language to do business in?' is 'My customer's language'.
