Management take a leap of faith for charity

Three members of the Applied Language Solutions management team, Richard Michie, Sarah Balmforth and Kenny Holden, are bravely taking part in a sponsored skydive on the 2nd December 2007. The courageous leap will take place over Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire with the aim to raise money for their chosen charity, the Forget Me Not Trust.

Richard Michie, Head of Marketing & PR, is the brains behind the fundraising event. He said, “I have always had an unexplored desire to do a skydive and as the Applied Language team are always on the look out for new ways to raise money for local charities, I thought what better way than to jump out of a plane and raise sponsorship at the same time.”

The 14,000 ft tandem skydive has already raised a significant sum of money for the charity through their donation webpage, www.justgiving.com/throw-management-from-the-plane and donations continue to pour in. In an attempt to increase awareness of the event and raise at least £5,000 for the local charity Richard Michie has also started a global group on the social network site, Facebook, called Throw the Management from the Plane.

Richard said, “Over the last year, we have organised many fundraising events for local charities. I have to say, the sky dive is by far the most daring fundraising effort we have organised so far but knowing we are raising money for a worthy cause makes it worthwhile.”

The translation company is helping the Huddersfield charity in their efforts to raise £1,000,000 to build a hospice for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. The strain on families who have to look after such children 24 hours a day, seven days a week is immense and the hospice will help meet the needs of the whole family by providing care and support.
