Survivor of Two Brain Tumors Helps with Brain Disorders

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Survivor of two brain tumors, Kelly Pittner has now dedicated her life to helping others with brain disorders obtain the care and support they need.

Pittner’s life was changed forever in 1998 when, at the age of 37, she was told she had a brain tumor the size of a small grapefruit that needed to be removed immediately.

“Since the tumor was so intertwined into the brain, in addition to the surgery I also received gamma knife radio surgery. Unfortunately, in 2001 the tumor started to re-grow and once again I was treated with gamma knife, and this time I also received six weeks of radiation therapy,” explained Pittner.

Today she is healthy and strong, and dedicated to helping others obtain both the treatment and the support that is so critical to survival.

After 20 years of working as a senior manager in a corporate environment, Pittner decided to leave her career to dedicate her life to helping others.

“I had gone through radiation treatment with so many people who, in my opinion, had it so much worse than me. I wanted to help them, along with the doctors who had saved my life and the wonderful hospital staff who did so much on a daily basis. So, I started this foundation,” explained Pittner.

In the fall of 2004 she received help and support from doctors and others who assisted her in forming the Foundation for Neuroscience, Stroke and Recovery. Foundation for Neuroscience, Stroke and Recovery.

She retired from IBM after a long career in a corporate environment to embark on her passion to make a difference in the lives of others suffering from neurological diseases.

“As a non-profit organization, we are dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients with neurological disorders by providing funding for research, support programs, equipment, and medical care,” explained Pittner. “Our ultimate goal is to help find a cure for brain tumors, strokes and neurological disorders that disrupt human lives.”

On July 14 the foundation will give away $15,000 in a “reverse raffle” luncheon at Pelican Hills in Newport Beach. Only 100 tickets are available for the raffle. Lunches and spa days will also be awarded as well as other prizes. Special guest celebrities for the event include Scott Hamilton and motivational speaker and entertainer Lola Gillebaard.

On Sep. 28 the foundation will host a fashion show and luncheon at the Santa Ana Performing Arts Center. Experience the newest fashions and a chance to purchase accessories, including cosmetics, handbags, and many other exciting designer items while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and Sangria. There will also be a silent auction.
