CGI HELPS LAW ENFORCEMENT KEEP DANGEROUS AND UNFIT VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD

October 31, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Edmonton, Alberta, October 31, 2007 - VIN I.Q. Inc. and CGI Group Inc. (TSX:GIB.A; NYSE:GIB) today announced a solution that gives Canadian Motor Vehicle Departments (CMVD) and law enforcement professionals instant access to a comprehensive, integrated source of information about any vehicle.

This solution will enable CMVDs and law enforcement to rapidly implement many of the recommendations made in the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) Best Practice Models for Combating Auto Theft in 2007.

The solution automatically uploads vehicle insurance data available from CGI's AutoPlus system into VIN I.Q.’s vehicle identification database to form a comprehensive information source. A quick scan with the handheld decoder gives transportation authorities, such as CMVDs and police, more accurate and faster access to information that could reveal that a vehicle is branded (heavily damaged or deemed unsalvageable), stolen or uninsured.

VIN I.Q., using proprietary Gammamatrix Technology, decodes, validates and expands a vehicle’s unique vehicle identification number (VIN). The hybrid VIN expander, developed after 11 years of research, allows the user of the hand held decoder to also capture the vehicle’s current odometer reading.

“Validation of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at time of registration or renewal, as well as its current odometer reading during registration, has been identified as a key tool in the fight against auto theft and odometer fraud in Canada," said Rob Orr, CEO, VIN I.Q.Inc. “This partnership will enable all CMVDs to easily adapt the best practices approved last fall by The Canadian Council of Motor Vehicle Administrators.”

"It is important that all CMVDs have the best tools and information available to them during the registration and renewal process. This partnership will do just that,” explained Wayne Beck, Vice-President Consulting Services. “And more importantly, adoption of this new tool will result in fewer unsafe vehicles on the road."
