Carver begins the story explaining the couple’s relationship and his personal journey from not wanting children to embracing the idea. “Every now and then he’d say, ‘We need to get a baby’. He might as well have said, ‘We need to get an elephant’ because, I was convinced it was just a phase and never going to happen”, Carver blogged.

Life changes and new experiences lead to a new outlook, new attitude, and a heart open to the experience of having children. After researching adoption options, the couple decided to become parents via surrogacy and egg donor. They used an agency in California, one of very few in the country that caters to gay couples. Soon after transferring two embryos to their surrogate, the couple received the news that they’ll soon be the parents of twins!
