Surf Communication Solutions (“Surf”), a leading provider of multimedia embedded processing solutions, announced today that TeraComm GmbH - Austria, a mobile marketing services provider with international network connections, has selected Surf’s PCI form factor multimedia processing solution, the SurfAce 112/PCITM, for inclusion in its Video Gateway and Streaming Services Platform (“VGSSP”) 3G video gateway solutions.TeraComm’s cutting-edge VGSSP solution supports real-time video as well as voice and data traffic, thus giving the user a unique visual experience and the opportunity to watch, hear, play, interact, and participate in real time with various real-time interactive video-based applications. The wide range of interactive video services—including live or on demand video streams, participation in live programming, multiplayer on-line gaming, video voting, interactive video chat and dating, content sales and support—supported by VGSSP provides significant business opportunities for Mobile Network Operators (“MNO”) and any kind of Service Providers (“SP”) from mobile or any other industry. One such MNO, the second largest Bulgarian-based mobile operator GLOBUL (COSMOTE Group), launched the GLOBUL 3G Video Portal based on the VGSSP 3G video gateway and incorporating Surf’s media processing cards in April of this year. The video portal, which offers live streaming and on-demand TV—including exclusive real time camera links to the VIP Brother celebrity reality show, news and weather casts, as well as view from live cams at key locations in Bulgaria and a wide range of different content services—registered over 178.000 visits during its first three months of activity.
The SurfAce-112/PCI (http://www.surf-com.com/media-processing-products/pci-ace-board.html) is a fully integrated universal PCI-compliant (32-bit / 33MHz) ¾ size PCI form-factor DSP resource board. It is compatible with a wide range of host platforms and is supplied with multiple drivers and a variety of interfaces, including 100MB Ethernet. The board is supplied with SurfWare-Media™, Surf's telecom-ready media processing software that facilitates development of media gateway and media server applications by offering simultaneous support for multimedia convergence—Voice, Video, and Data (Fax/Modem) —all running on a single DSP.
“TeraComm selected Surf’s technology for its 3G video support, which gave us the opportunity to add live video to our offering,” said Ivo Petrov, CEO of TeraComm. “Surf’s PCI DSP boards were easy to implement over our Linux operating system, which greatly accelerated our time-to-market, allowing us to realize an almost immediate return on investment.”
“We are pleased to be selected as TeraComm’s DSP supplier,” said Avi Harush, Surf’s Sales Director, EMEA. “These projects demonstrate how Surf's rich multimedia processing package, with its 3G video processing capabilities, provides our customers with cost-effective, scalable and comprehensive solutions for a variety of telecom applications.”
