Leica TITAN Premiering Hurricane Katrina Data at GEOINT
October 26, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Norcross, Georgia, USA ¡X Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging is exhibiting NVision Solutions¡¦ Hurricane Katrina data in Leica TITAN at the GEOINT Conference, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. Empowered by a 3D virtual globe, Leica TITAN is a dynamic online solution allowing users and communities to share geospatial data, web services and location-based content in a single, secure environment. Users create a MyWorld, a geographically enabled personal space to upload their data, set permissions, and share content with other users in the network.
A strategic partner of Leica Geosystems, Nvision Solutions recently created a MyWorld in Leica TITAN, featuring both vector and image layers of Mississippi, before and after Hurricane Katrina. As a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) contractor, NVision Solutions has comprehensively aggregated this data. The image layers available include:
* 2004/2005 United States Department of Agriculture National Agriculture Imagery Program (USDA NAIP), collected before the storm
* 2005 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), taken a few days after the storm
* 2006 Earthdata, collected 1 year after the storm
The Mississippi vector layers include:
* FEMA advisory base flood elevations used to create Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs)
* FEMA storm surge inundation limit
* High water marks
* Hurricane¡¦s path
"We are excited to showcase NVision Solutions remarkable image and vector layers in Leica TITAN," said Mladen Stojic, Senior Vice President, Product Management and Marketing, Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging. "These images and vector layers effectively illustrate the changes Hurricane Katrina brought to Mississippi¡¦s landscape."
"Leica TITAN provides one secure source for discovering, viewing and retrieving geospatial data, web services and location-based information," said Craig Harvey, CIO, Nvision Solutions. "This innovative solution has empowered us to share our vector and image data with others in the industry, promoting a better understanding of the devastation brought by hurricanes."
Additionally, NVision Solutions has also published a number of other critical infrastructure layers in Leica TITAN, including the US Department of Transportation¡¦s national bridge inventory and the Gulf of Mexico oil and gas pipelines, platforms, dams and locks and ports.
