VAIL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES CALL FOR 2008 SUBMISSIONS

VAIL, Colo., October 26, 2007 – The Vail Film Festival announced today that it is currently accepting 2008 entries in the following categories: Feature, Documentary, Short, Action and Student Films. The (RED)TM Short Film Category is also making its debut at the 2008 Vail Film Festival. The category represents a brand new partnership between the Vail Film Festival and (RED), a brand created by Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage the private sector and consumer power in raising awareness and funds for the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa. The “(RED) Vision” category asks filmmakers to dramatize the core ideas behind (RED) and embraces themes of inspiration, motivation and education. Find out more about (RED) at JOINRED.COM. The regular submission deadline for all categories for the 2008 Festival is December 1, 2007. The late submission deadline is December 31, 2008.

Accepted films will be screened at the Fifth Anniversary Vail Film Festival, taking place April 3rd through April 6th, 2007 in Vail, Colorado. This unique destination film festival showcases a variety of the year’s best independent films from around the globe. Filmmakers and film fans return to the festival each year to experience select film screenings, industry panel discussions and workshops, live entertainment, exclusive parties and, of course, some of the world’s best skiing and snow activities. The 2007 Vail Film Festival drew 14,000 attendees from around the world, including more than 300 independent filmmakers and some of Hollywood’s most accomplished professionals. The Festival screened 63 films from around the world, including feature films and documentaries, short films, Oscar shorts, action sports, and student films.
Highlight films at the 2007 Vail Film Festival included Knocked Up, written and directed by Judd Apatow; Snow Cake starring Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver; and Two Tickets to Paradise starring D.B. Sweeney and John C. McGinley. The 2007 Gold Summit Award for Contribution to Film was awarded to legendary actor, director, writer Harold Ramis. The festival also honored Sophia Bush with the 2007 Rising Star Award, and Heroes star Hayden Panettiere was honored with the Breakthrough Actor of the Year award.
