Vegan Pirates of The Carob Bean Prophecy for the Future.
July 25, 2006 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Inevitably Disney's new film Pirates of The Caribbean Dead Man's Chest starring Johnny Depp has led to many Pirate copycats jumping on the Hollywood Bandwagon. One of the most bizarre of these is Long John Tofu and the Vegan Pirates of the Carob Bean intent on encouraging vegan pirate versions of all animal products. The Pirates of The Carob Bean official Website say that they are committed to the "Vegdumacation" of the world for the well being of people, animals and the planet. They talk of a 400 year old prophecy predicting a more vegan world.
They are certainly unlike most of the Pirates depicted by Disney, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Bill Nighy. The Vegan Pirates are pledged to the Da Vegan Code and to use their cutlasses for slicing fruit and veg, their muskets for accessing the milk of coconuts and the closest they get to choking anything is an artichoke.
Formed in 2004 after the first Disney Pirates of the Carribean Film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Vegan Pirates of the Carob Bean now have a forum (where you are encouraged to talk like a pirate), a Vegan Pirate Blog with the latest news and Pirate Voicemail, as well as an updated Main website http://www.piratesofthecarobbean.com
In 2004 Vegan Pirates were seen wandering the streets of London handing out Treasure maps to passers by.
It's anticipated this time around that Vegan Pirates will be popping up all over the world.
Certainly there have been a barrage of pirate copies of traditionally non vegan foods lately.
Plamil Foods in the seaside Pirate town of Folkestone (UK) recently launched a chocolate that not only had no dairy it had no sugar and rich in Essential omega 3 fats and proteins due to added Hempseeds. Plamil also make an awesome egg free mayonaisse.
The award winning Redwoods Foods (Northampton UK) have a range of vegan pirate copies of foods such as fish fingers, scampi bites, bacon, sausages, seagull peices and an incredible melting dairy free cheese that's perfect for pizzas and trialed by Pizza Express.
In conjunction with Granovita a Czech republic company is launching a new vegan soya kebab steak that is the perfect pirate food, requires no refridgeration, cooks just like pasta, rich in protein, low in carbohydrate, salt, and saturated fat. Perfect for vegan doner Kebab, stir frys, stews, curry, sandwiches, mexican dishes, BBQ's or just as a steak of pure plant protein.
The Food Doctor have launched a more nutritious version of that traditional Pirate staple, Peanut Butter. Their new Omega 3 rich butter is made with a range of different seeds. It's just one of a whole range of new Food Doctor seed based products focussing on essential fats and protein rich foods.
Meanwhile a Swiss company has launched an ethical pirate copy of Omega 3 DHA EPA made from Algae and Seaweed instead of Fish. Sustainably produced and kinder to the people and the environment this product not only promises to solve the problem of endangered fish stocks throughout the seven seas but also an economical solution for increased mental problems amongst both children and adults.
It seems the Vegan Pirates have much to celebrate - no doubt we will see and hear much more of them.
